This Tues, April 18, singer/songwriter Luke Nicholson will make his first appearance on The Songwriter Series stage (8:00pm, Temple Lounge, Barrie). His brand new album, ‘Shape and Sound’ was just released yesterday. You can download the album and check out the Canadian Beats review of the album here.
Originally from Lakefield, Ontario, Nicholson began his career by regularly performing at The Cameron House on Queen St West in Toronto. The singer/songwriter had his first major breakthrough in 2008, when the track “Breathe” from the film Poor Boys Game earned a Genie nomination for Best Original Song. His first album Mad Love debuted in 2012, and featured three CBC Radio 2 Top 20 singles and earned glowing reviews in Europe, most notably from Rolling Stone Germany. The magazine described Nicholson as a “young Elton John or Billy Joel.” He followed up his debut in 2015 with the full-length LP Frantic City, again receiving radio airplay for the singles ‘Sadie’, and ‘Maggie’s Song’.
Interesting fact….Luke is the brother of singer/songwriter Royal Wood. Both have similar classic pop styles and regularly contribute to each other’s albums.
Joining Luke for The Songwriter Series on Tues night will be the talented rootsy, bluesy Sean Pinchin, Barrie’s own Nate Douglas and regular host Brett Caswell. Hope to see you there. You can get advance tickets here at Eventbrite. Doors at 6:30pm.
